We founded this company on a simple, slightly controversial belief: Most cat products are designed for humans, not cats.

Walk into any pet store, and you’ll see aisles of beige towers, grey beds, and aesthetic scratchers designed to match your sofa. They look great in your living room. But to your cat? They are invisible.

The "Camouflaged Comfort" Problem

We started Cat is King when we realized a difficult truth about our own sensitive pets. While cats are masters of night vision, their color perception is vastly different from ours.

Cats are naturally adapted to see in the cool end of the spectrum. To them, warm tones like red, orange, and brown often appear as dull, muddy variations of grey.

That expensive beige or brown bed you bought? To them, it blends perfectly into the wood floor or the shadows of the room. When they are feeling anxious or territorial, they can’t distinguish their safe space because they simply can’t see it clearly against the background.

We realized that while we were treating them like royalty with gourmet food and toys, we were leaving them in a blur when it came to their environment.

The Science of Safety

We decided to change the way we design comfort. We stopped looking at interior design trends and started looking at Feline Biology.

Science confirms that Blue and Green are the most vivid, distinguishable colors in the feline visual spectrum.

That is why our flagship product, the Sanctuary Bed, isn't beige, red, or brown. It comes in High-Visibility Blue and Sage Green.
